ESL One Road to Rio: NA – FURIA and Gen.G in Semifinals

Tonight concluded the group stage of the North American division of ESL One: Road to RioGen.G Esports and FURIA Esports placed first in their groups and advanced directly to the semifinals, while 100 Thieves, Team Envy, Cloud9 and Team Liquid secured their places in the quarterfinals.

The group stage was supposed to feature 12 teams competing in two GSL groups with best-of-three series. However, Orgless disbanded and withdrew from the tournament without a replacement, leaving Group A with only five teams. The results of the stage are following:

The playoffs stage will feature a single-elimination bracket with all matches being best-of-three. In the semifinals FURIA Esports will face either 100 Thieves or Team Liquid, while the winner of the match between Team Envy and Cloud9 will play with Gen.G Esports. The competition will conclude on May 10th; its winner will receive $18,000 in prize money and 1600 RMR-points.

Earlier ESL One: Road to Rio concluded in South America, where BOOM Esports defeated Isurus in the grand finals, claiming $6,000 and 1600 RMR-points. Currently the competition is ongoing in Europe and CIS, as both regions are still in the group stage. The Asian and Oceanian divisions will start on May 6th.

ESL One: Road to Rio is the first tournament in the Regional Major Rankings series, which will determine the participants of the only major event of 2020 – ESL One Rio. The total prize pool is set at $255,000.
