BLAST Premier: Spring Regular Play to Feature 12 Teams Competing for $300,000
RFRSH Entertainment, one of the main tournament organizers in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene in the last year, have significantly changed the format of their competitions for 2020.
In response to the criticism from community, the events will feature best-of-three series instead of best-of-one matches and will not have several series played simultaneously. BLAST Pro Series will be renamed to BLAST Premier and become sort of a league with Regular Play, Seasonal Finals and Global Finals.
The season will begin with BLAST Premier: Spring 2020, divided into Regular Season, Showdown and Finals. The regular season will be played on January 31st – February 16th in London. Twelve invited teams, including Astralis, Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses, 100 Thieves, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, Team Vitality, G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, MIBR, OG and Complexity, will compete in three GSL groups with best-of-three series.
In Group A’s first matches FaZe will face NiP, while Liquid will play with MIBR. In the opening series of Group B Natus Vincere will compete with Vitality, while Astralis will play with CoL. The first series of Group C will look as follows: 100T vs G2, EG vs OG. The prize pool of the Regular Season is set at $300,000. Teams placed 1st-6th will secure their place in Spring 2020 Finals, while the others will play in Spring 2020 Showdown.
The participants of the Showdown stage will compete for a $325,000 prize pool and two final tickets to the finals. The final stage will feature a $750,000 prize pool, with the best team qualifying for the global final.
We should expect the similar system for the other seasonal events, while BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020 will feature best eight teams competing for a $1,500,000 prize pool.
