PPD Retires from Competitive Dota 2 Scene
Peter "ppd" Dager, the champion of The International 2015, has decided to end his career of professional Dota 2 player and parted ways with Ninjas in Pyjamas. The organization is determined to form a new roster out of “young talents”.
29-years-old American Peter "ppd" Dager started to play Dota 2 professionally in 2013. A year later he joined Evil Geniuses, which became his most successful team – with them he emerged victorious at The International 2015, as well as placed 3rd at both TI4 and TI6. In the second part of 2016, PPD took a break from competitive scene and switched to a managing role inside Evil Geniuses.
Dager returned to competing in early 2017, eventually being picked up by OpTic Gaming, with whom he won StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5 and finished 7-8th at The International 2018. For the last year and a half PPD has been playing for Ninjas in Pyjamas. Last season the team ended with a 17-18th finish at The International 2019, while this season the team placed 3rd at DreamLeague Season 12 and 7-8th at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020, failing to qualify for a single major event.
Earlier last month Ninjas in Pyjamas started to play with stand-ins due to the fact that the roster consisted of players from different regions, who were unable to play together since most tournaments moved to online regional play after the coronavirus outbreak. In the official statement regarding the departure of PPD, the organization’s COO Jonas Gundersen announced that they are already working on a new roster and “have some interesting young talents already”. It remains unknown whether the new roster will include any players from the former one.
